This is my first time posting on a blog. It is scary and exciting at the same time. Scary because of the unknown world of blogging, and exciting because it allows me to share my thoughts in a different way than in the past.
I am inspired to start blogging because of the wonderful things I have discovered since starting my own practice 9 months ago. I have connected with my patients in ways that I had not imagined possible. It is so nice to have the time to get to know each person individually rather than just focusing on the ailment aspect of the person.
I will try to write more of my thoughts in my posts to come. Until then, may health be with you.

It is refreshing to hear physicians who can strike connections with their patients, given the current health care system which stresses high "productivity" and "efficiency" to deliver the so-called "quality patient care" with "low cost".
ReplyDeleteSeven months ago, I had the opportunity to shadow a physician who does home visits. It was an eye-opening experience. Just stepping into the homes of these patients give so much information about their lives and how their living environment influences their health status. This additional information can completely change the medical treatment plan.
I learn that following through any physicians' recommendations not only depends on the patients' ability to understand the instructions and their willingness to take charge of their own health, but it also depends on their socioeconomic and psycho-social factors. Sometimes, the non-medical intervention outweights medication or surgery in improving patients' health.
I believe that a medical treatment plan that takes patients' psycho-social and economic background into account will increase compliance and ultimately success in improving their health. Not to mention that this way of practicing medicine strengthens physician-patient relationships and counteract the mistrust in the current system.
May your practice continues to be rewarding and continues to bring positive impact to peoples' lives.
Thank you very much for your encouragement. I am glad you were able to experience the benefits of such interaction between physician and patient.
